80 GHz FMCW Radar Level Meter
The operating principle of the FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar level meter is that the radar emits electromagnetic waves from the top of the tank. After the waves are reflected by the medium surface, they are received by the radar. The frequency difference (δf) between the transmitted and received signals is proportional to the distance R to the medium surface: R=C×δf/(2K) Where C is the speed of light and K is the frequency modulation slope. Since C and K are known, the frequency difference δf can be used to calculate the distance R from the radar to the material surface. The level height is then obtained by subtracting this distance from the total tank height.
