Split-Type Ultrasonic Level Meter
Ultrasonic level meters operate by measuring the time-of-flight of sound waves: a sensor emits an ultrasonic pulse that travels through air, reflects off the surface of the medium, and returns to the sensor; knowing the speed of sound in air, the round-trip time is used to calculate the distance to the surface, and subtracting this “empty height” from the known tank depth yields the actual liquid or solid level. In split-type designs, the probe (transducer) and transmitter (signal processor) are separated—ideal for high-temperature, corrosive, or remote-monitoring applications—with the probe mounted directly on the tank and the transmitter installed at an accessible location, connected via cable.
