Weight-and-Cable (Plumb Bob) Level Indicator

Plumb-bob (weight-and-cable) level meters consist of a sensor and a control unit; the sensor, mounted on the silo top, lowers a weighted probe via a motor-driven stainless steel tape or wire into the vessel. The instrument automatically initiates periodic measurements: the weight descends until it contacts the material surface, then immediately retracts. The distance from the silo top to the material surface (hl) is derived from the cable payout length; subtracting hl from the user-defined total silo height (H) gives the material level (h = H – hl). Controlled by a PLC, the system offers high stability, ease of use, and communication capabilities (e.g., RS485), enabling integration into distributed control systems for centralized monitoring and management in power, metallurgy, cement, coal, chemical, and food industries.
