Metal Tube Rotameter

The metal tube variable area (rotameter) flow meter operates on the principle of variable annular area: within a vertically oriented measuring tube, as fluid flows upward, it lifts a float until the upward force balances the float’s weight. At this equilibrium position, the annular gap between the float and the tapered tube (or orifice plate) remains constant, and this gap area is proportional to the float’s height, which thus indicates flow rate. As the float moves, its position is transmitted externally via magnetic coupling to drive a pointer on the indicator; a cam plate ensures linear scale indication. The electric remote transmission version simultaneously provides local pointer indication and converts the flow value into a precise standard signal (0–10 mA or 4–20 mA) via an angular displacement sensor and electronic transmitter circuit.
